In my naivety I thought I'd take my two small kids out to the local playground as money was a bit tight to go to Nantwich, which is about 7 miles away. When we arrived the children were keen to play and were clearly unperturbed by the graffiti, litter, broken glass and bags of dog faeces strewn about the place. I was given a harsh look by a lone pre-teen on his BMX who also thought it was a bad idea for us to visit. Explaining why Daddy thought the playground was not suitable didn't go down well with either child and my popularity all round went into a nose dive. Having revisited the other day, this time alone, I thought the place might have improved, local Council responsibilities and all that stuff. This is what I found, enjoy.
So then we get to the thorny issue of responsibility. For those on the right, feral youth are clearly to blame. For those on the left, poverty, unemployment or 'social exclusion' are offered up. Me, I just blame the council. Seriously, would you take your child to play here in Crewe?
